ABOUT Student Employment

APPLICATION OPEN: JUNE 9-20, 2025

Student Employment positions are opportunities available for 2nd-4th Year RU Students within various departments. Student employment helps to finance the cost of tuition at Ramp University and provides students with a weekly paycheck. Students are required to work a certain number of hours throughout the school year to qualify for full tuition coverage. Details of eligibility can be found below.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

The following criteria establish a student’s eligibility for Student Employment at the RampU:

  • A student must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards with a letter of recommendation from an instructor or director.

  • Once a recommendation is submitted the application will be reviewed by a HR and Department Director.

  • A student must have already submitted an application for the upcoming RampU year to be considered for Student Employment.

  • A student is allotted a specific amount of Student Employment hours to award full coverage of tuition.

OBTAINING STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

  • Student Employment is given to students on a first come first serve basis to those who have completed their application and turned in their letter of recommendation.

  • Students must apply for positions, in which they have the skill set and ability to perform the position.  

  • If accepted, the coordinator will then email the student with a position and their Director Report. 

  • Students will go through the Ramp onboarding process and be required to provide all necessary documentation, as well as sign the employee handbook. 

  • Student Employment opportunities are typically made for the nine month academic year, but may begin as early as June of the same year. 

  • Students will function as employees, and if available, be required to attend all staff meetings, team meetings, 1:1s, etc.

JOB PERFORMANCE

  • A student is expected to notify their Director at least one day before missing a day of work unless it’s an emergency. 

  • A student, who is missing work without notifying his /her supervisor or behaving inappropriately, will be counseled with one time. If the behavior continues the student may be terminated from his/her position.

  • The Director will do an evaluation at the end of each semester. If a student has a poor evaluation, he/she will be counseled. If a student has a second poor evaluation, he/she is no longer eligible for student employment.

  • Students are expected to dress appropriately for the type of position they have been assigned.

POLICY ON JOB ASSIGNMENTS

  • Students will be placed in the Student Employment Program based upon eligibility and openings. Directors will evaluate each student at the end of each semester. â€‹

  • Students will meet with their Directors on a regular basis to receive feedback and areas for growth.​​

  • Students will have the opportunity to attend team meetings for their Director’s department meetings. 

PAYMENT

  • A student employee is paid at an hourly wage of [$12]. 50% of this will be used to go towards the outstanding balance of tuition until the full amount has been met, as well as provide a remaining pay check for the student. 
     

  • 2nd Year student employees must work 22 hours a week for 38 weeks.*

  • A 2nd Year student must fulfill 836 hours of work over a 9.5 month period to pay for their tuition.

  • 3rd Year student employees must work 11 hours a week for 38 weeks.*

  • ​A 3rd Year student must fulfill 418 hours of work over a 9.5 month period to pay for their tuition.  

  • 4th Year student employees must work on average 7 hours a week for 38 weeks.*

  • ​​A 4th Year student must fulfill 250 hours of work over a 9.5 month period to pay for their tuition.​

*This does include holiday weeks [Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break]. In the event of holidays, the student employee must establish time-off with his/her direct report and formulate plan for hours to be completed in other weeks. A student may not go over his/her allotment of employment time within one week. A time sheet is to be filled in weekly and turned into the Financial Director. ​

A student will be paid for the hours worked. Students will not be paid for sick leave, holidays, overtime or vacation days.

If a student finishes allotted hours before the 9.5 months and wishes to remain on as a student employee for the duration of the school year, they may be able to continue as contract labor.

If an opportunity for employment at the Ramp is available, student employees will be able to apply for a permanent position.
